Somebody won the Powerball jackpot & somebody won the Mega Millions jackpot
This is what I call good news! Somebody in New Hampshire won the $643 million Powerball jackpot and somebody down in Florida won the
$450 million Mega Millions jackpot.
The winning Powerball numbers were 12-29-30-33-61 Powerball number 26. The winning Mega Millions numbers were 28-30-39-59-70 Mega Ball number 10.
Before taxes, the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots totaled $1.093 billion. The winning ticket in New Hampshire was bought at Reeds Ferry Market, while the winning ticket in Florida was purchased at a 7 Eleven convenience store.
The lucky winners have yet to come forward, but I think it’s cool if they want to remain anonymous.
Heck, I wouldn’t want people knowing if I had that much money either. Friends, family members, folks at the church, the store, the banks, and people on the street will have their hands out.
They’ll make you poor again before you can enjoy your new riches. So yeah, it’s best to remain anonymous because it helps to keep your money safe.
Although the folks who did win don’t have to reveal themselves to the public, they do need to make themselves known to the lottery officials in their respective states.
In New Hampshire, the person has a year to claim his winning. The year deadline also applies to those who want to claim the full cash value of $358.5 million from the Powerball jackpot.
Florida gives its winners 180 days from the day that the winning numbers were announced. And if the person wants to claim all of his/her winnings in cash, he/she must claim the money within 60 days after the winning numbers were announced. The cash value for the Mega Millions is $281.2 million.
Yep, the $358.5 million Powerball jackpot and the $281.2 million Mega Millions jackpot is what the winners will receive after the state and feds collect their fair share in taxes. Taxes are bad.
The folks who won the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots aren’t the only winners. The store owners who sold the winning tickets also get a piece of the pie.
The folks over at Reeds Ferry Market will receive $75,000, while the folks over at the 7 Eleven store in Florida will receive $100,000.
According to the New Hampshire Lottery press release, this is the second time in less than two years that a person bough a winning Powerball ticket in New Hampshire.
No doubt, the folks over at New Hampshire Lottery are excited about selling the winning ticket in their state.
Charles McIntyre , who is the executive director of New Hampshire Lottery, is quoted in the press release as saying, “We cannot even describe our excitement right now at having a $559.7 million Powerball jackpot winner.”
McIntyre also gave some advice to the winner telling him/her not to spend his/her money foolishly by buying “an expensive yacht or a mansion.”
“I would encourage him or her to take a moment to process what winning this prize means,” said McIntyre.
